Kilmar Abrego Garcia said he suffered severe beatings, severe sleep deprivation and psychological torture in the notorious El Salvador prison the Trump administration had deported him to in March, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

A Nashville-based U.S. Magistrate Judge has ruled to keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia in custody for now as a legal battle rages over whether he will be deported by the U.S. Department of Justice before he can face his criminal trial.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia is back in the U.S. and facing criminal charges, but his lawyers are still trying to keep alive the civil case that prompted his return.
