Matheus Martinelli and substitute Hercules struck as Brazilian side Fluminense advanced to the Club World Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Saudi club Al-Hilal. Martinelli fired into the top corner after finding some room in the box following Gabriel Fuentes' cutback five minutes before half-time although they were quickly pegged back in Orlando.

Hercules came off the bench and scored in the 70th minute to lift Fluminense past Al Hilal 2-1 in a Club World Cup quarterfinal match on Friday.

Just before the break, Al-Hilal almost equalized. Kalidou Koulibaly connected with a perfect free-kick from Ruben Neves and sent a powerful header toward goal but, Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio reacted quickly and made a fantastic diving save.
