Towns and villages on Long Island declared states of emergency Wednesday as Hurricane Erin draws near. Surf is blasting coastlines, ocean beaches are closed to swimming, and residents are bracing for possible flooding and widespread erosion . Commercial fishing boats are docked to ride out the storm.

Hurricane Erin brought extreme conditions to the entire East Coast on Thursday. Included in the impacts were Queens and Long Island in New York.

Coastal Rhode Island is under a high surf advisory and flood advisory as Hurricane Erin continues to send big waves to the Ocean State.
