A Becker County jury recently found Sen. Nicole Mitchell (DFL-Woodbury) guilty of two burglary charges after she broke into the Detroit Lakes home of her stepmother to retrieve some of her late father’s belongings.

A Minnesota state senator will resign from office from her seat after she was found guilty Friday of burglarizing her stepmother's home, her attorney said in a statement.

The state senator, who says she’ll resign in August, was convicted on charges that carry a mandatory minimum sentence of six months in jail.
