The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory at 3:27 a.m. EST on Sunday in effect until 10 p.m. EST for Barry County.

A winter storm is expected to bring hazardous precipitation to Western North Carolina starting Saturday afternoon.

"Impacts will be crippling across at least a part of the forecast area, especially where ice accretion approaches or exceeds 0.75 inches," read the latest forecast discussion.

Much of Texas has faced challenging winter weather this month, including snowstorms, and meteorologists have warned that the forecast thunderstorms could produce damaging winds and hail. The severe weather may create unsafe travel conditions for people in the affected areas.
