I know, I know windows media player, win DVD and Power DVD all will play Vob files. The problem I'm having is with files I've ripped to my harddrive.

I edit VOB files all the time. I just change the extension to MPG, and they edit and play fine with almost anything. VOB is just a container with mpeg 1 or 2 streams inside, along with an audio layer.
