Hurricane Erin has quickly intensified to Category 5 strength as it churns through the Atlantic with sustained winds of 160 mph, the National Hurricane Center reported Saturday evening.

NOAA and U.S. Air Force hurricane hunters have released jaw-dropping footage from inside the eye of Hurricane Erin as they passed over the Atlantic Ocean.

Rip currents have been blamed for at least one death in New Jersey in the past week.
