The Trump administration has halted efforts to place migrants in tent structures built at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba amid concerns that the emerging facilities don’t meet detention standards because they lack air conditioning or electricity,

The number of troops being sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in support of migrant detention operations there continues to swell, with approximately 1,100 service members now deployed to the Navy base.

Flights that left from Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, Thursday transported nearly 200 illegal immigrants detained on the island back to Venezuela.

The confusion surrounding the detention of migrants at the base and their sudden deportation shouldn’t be mistaken for a broader lack of planning.

Many of the migrants were being kept in a detention facility that has historically held suspected terrorists. They were flown back to Venezuela Thursday after a stop in Honduras.
