The Braves finally gave Verdugo a $1.5 million deal — a significant reduction from his previous earnings — and required him to start the season in the minor leagues.
Verdugo, 29, is a career .270 hitter with 70 homers and 328 RBIs in 856 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2017-19), Boston Red Sox (2020-23), New York Yankees (2024) and Braves.
Verdugo went unsigned for most of the offseason until he landed a deal with the Braves in late March. In 56 games with the Braves, Verdugo batted .239/.296/.289 with 10 doubles and 12 RBIs.
Unfortunately for Verdugo, the Braves did not see it either, on either side of the ball. Playing 54 games in left field, he produced just one defensive run saved, according to Fangraphs.
Verdugo was a late free-agent signing, joining the Braves on a one-year, $1.5 million deal on March 20. He was coming off a down season with the New York Yankees in 2024.
