The Kansas City Chiefs have a bit of a backfield logjam. The returners include Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt and Carson Steele. Then you add in veteran Elijah Mitchell, brought over after time with the 49ers, and rookie Brashard Smith, who starred at SMU. There probably isn't room for every one of those guys in the RB room.
Kansas City's front office announced its decision to waive Young as part of a series of transactions that saw former first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah placed on the Chiefs' injured reserve list. The team signed defensive lineman Owen Carney and linebacker Xander Mueller to bring its roster back to full strength.
Last season, Hunt led Kansas City in rushing with 728 yards and seven touchdowns. He didn't join the Chiefs until Week 4 last season after being signed due to Isiah Pacheco's injury.
The Chiefs drafted Brashard Smith in the seventh round out of SMU, so it seems likely he'll make the team, too. Kansas City may keep Carson Steele, too. He's been listed as a fullback.
