The Boston Red Sox have signed first baseman Nathaniel Lowe to a one-year contract. The move comes two days after Lowe was released by the Washington Nationals.

Texas traded Lowe in December of 2024 to shed salary and acquire a projectable left-handed arm for the bullpen.

Boston is currently holding onto the second wild card seed at 67-56 and is 5.5 games back from the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East. The Red Sox are more than capable of reaching the postseason, but adding a talented first baseman like Lowe could be the difference in making a deep run and facing an early exit.
