After the disappointment of missing out on the NCAA tournament, quite a few teams declined bids to the NIT. Here's the 11 who won't be participating.

After Sun Belt commissioner Keith Gill and NCAA senior vice president of basketball Dan Gavitt extended South Alabama an invite to the NIT [National Invitation Tournament] late Sunday night, it was rescinded an hour later in an embarrassing moment for the NCAA and a heartbreaking one for the South Alabama players.

The mix-up happened because UC Riverside, which had initially committed to the College Basketball Invitational (CBI), later reversed course and accepted an NIT bid. That left South Alabama, which had been named as a replacement, without a spot.

Florida Atlantic will not make a third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament but Year 1 of the John Jakus era has the Owls in the NIT.

The NCAA Tournament remains the pinnacle, and every team fights all year to earn a bid. There were 68 teams who heard their name on Sunday’s selection show, and all of them celebrated their inclusion in March Madness. Those who did not have a decision to make.
