In a ceremony before Seattle hosted the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, legendary former Storm guard Sue Bird, who led the franchise to four WNBA championships, became the first WNBA player honored with a statue outside a WNBA arena.

Longtime Seattle Storm point guard Sue Bird, who already had her jersey retired and a street in Seattle named after her, had a statue erected in her honor outside Climage Pledge Arena on Sunday morning.

On Sunday August 17th, the Seattle Storm unveiled the first-ever statue dedicated to a WNBA player, honoring Bird’s 21-year career and cementing her place among Seattle’s sports icons.
