The 38th Weifang International Kite Festival, began on Friday in the "Kite Capital" of east China's Shandong Province. As a birthplace of kites, Weifang has a long history of kite making which boasts exquisite craftsmanship. In May 2006, Weifang kites were named on a national cultural heritage list. More than 70 percent of kites in the world are exported from Weifang. With the International Kite Federation headquartered in Weifang, the city has become the center of global kite culture exchange.

The 36th International Kite Festival kicked off at the International Kite Flying Field in Weifang City, east China's Shandong Province.
