I’ve spent 25 years using explosive actuated tools, drilling holes and setting duplex nails and wire or mushroom head concrete spikes. To a large degree, those days are over. Two of the methods still have their place (fixing temporary plates, or permanently setting lumber where tensile strength is needed) but for basic sheer of wall bottom plates, or fastening lumber to steel, there’s no better or faster way than this. these 2 1/2 inch nails set flush to the plate and embed 1 inch into concrete.
